(LEXINGTON)- The Lady Cats were back in action from Historic Memorial Colisieum after a lengthy road game stretch. Tonight, they welcomed Queens University from Charlotte, North Carolina to Lexington. Kentucky, earning the sixteenth spot in the AP Poll this week — absolutely dismantled the ladies from Queens. This game was less about the rousing spirit of healthy competition and more about how many points could the Kentucky women possibly score. Letting out some pent up frustration from the loss to UNC I would imagine.
Georgia Amoore led the way in scoring for Kentucky, tallying 20 points total. Amelia Hassett added 19 points of her own and also eclipsed the 1,000 Collegiate Career Point Mark. Kentucky sprung out to a commanding 20 point lead after the First Quarter and it was evident that this would wind up with an ugly final score. Queens shot an abysmal 25% from the Field, for those that aren’t good at math — that is one out of four shots finding the bottom of the nylon. I’m not good at math, but I know that doesn’t add up as a recipe for even mild success. When the clock struck zero, Kentucky emerged victorious 87-45 — ugly.
Hasset (on scoring 1,000 points) , “It was a great feeling hitting that milestone. Props to my teammates for helping me get there. This team can be great. We have to put the work in. And yeah, I felt like it was a great fit and choice. And I just love the coaching staff and Coach Brooks.”
I’ll be honest, I didn’t leave this game with much being learned about this squad. Do I think they are contenders? Not quite yet. Do I think they can make some noise in the brutal Southeastern Conference? Abso-freaking-lutely.
Cool Stat: With tonight’s win, Kentucky improved it’s streak of defeating twelve straight first-time opponents. A record dating back to 2017.
